I looked extensively at WRX Wagons to use in the winter, primarily for a ski vehicle. I drove a bunch and they are really fun cars...but
For a few bucks more [$19,000] I got a really nice car with a great inline six, German engineered handling, nice body lines, and a really beautiful interior. The first time a drove one, I knew I was not getting the Subaru. The Rexes are fast, but they are NOT a family type vehicle. The ride is stiff and the car is darty with its short wheelbase, etc. Their styling is a little unusual, and the interior is just plain cheap. It is where they saved money to build the great little engine.
The Bimmer is in a completely different class of cars. I found a black on black, tiptronic with cold weather package and some upgrades like stereo. It had 39k miles. They are not common, but you can find them. Don't confuse the awd with the 2 wheel drive only. They are two different cars. Love mine. gordo
